The Jug House Michters Distillery Scheafferstown Pa 1984 |
At the time I built this model Michters Distillery was the oldest operating still in America, and the only place one could legally buy a bottle of whiskey on a Sunday in Pennsylvania. Located in Lebanon county near Scheafferstown, it was originaly known as Bombergers distillery, though it was John & Michael Shenk who first distilled whiskey there in 1753. As whiskeys go, Michters was the smoothest, easiest sippin whiskey I ever had the pleasure to easily sip, and I easily sipped my share in those days. The still closed some twenty years ago, and has since fallen into ruin. Some expensive retailer bought the whiskey left in the ware house & is selling it for more than I'll ever be able to afford. I'd gladly provide a link to his site for a jug of that whiskey. Mike :-) |
